The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is an
international organisation with a membership of 16,500 which represents
and provides services to the building services profession. The objectives
of the Institution is to promote the art, science and practice of building

Eircom provides telephone and telecommunications services throughout
the country. It also provides and maintains building services at more
than 1000 of its own locations, specifies and maintains building services
to the appropriate technical and safety standards, and assists in generating
such standards through staff membership on a number of ETCI Technical

The ECA is the primary organisation for electrical contractors in the
commercial and industrial sectors. It acts for the industry in contractual
and commercial matters as well as in industrial relations, training and
health and safety. It represents the contractors at international as well
as national levels and in dealings with Government Departments, State
and Semi State bodies and the professional institutes. It is affiliated
with the Construction Industry Federation and a member of other national
and international organisations.

The Electricity Supply Board, a statutory corporation, was established
in 1927 under the Electricity (Supply) Act of that year. Whilst primarily
involved in the generation, transmission and distribution of electrical
energy, the Board has always placed a very high priority on promoting
electrical safety with its customers. It strongly supports the objectives
of ETCI, both financially and through providing personnel for technical
committees.

EMDA is the association which represents Manufacturers and Distributors
of electrical goods and equipment in Ireland. EMDA involves itself in
the ELEX Exhibition, the EMDA Directory and various market surveys within

In 2006 the Institution of Electrical Engineers merged with the Institution
of Incorporated Engineers to form the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The Institution has been active in Ireland since 1899 and has nearly 1500
members. The worldwide membership of the IET is about 150,000. The Institution
represents all grades of Engineers - Incorporated Engineers, Engineering
Technicians, members of the Institution, Chartered Engineers and Fellows
while promoting the advancement of knowledge in electrical, electronic
and manufacturing engineering and related sciences. Amongst a wide range
of membership services, the IET operates a comprehensive information system,
INSPEC, in physics, electrotechnology, computer science and control engineering.
Members are widely recognised for their qualifications and experience.
To support them in maintaining the highest professional standards, the
Institution offers lectures, conferences, courses, and regular technical

The National Consumer Agency (NCA) is a statutory body established by
the Irish Government in May 2007. It aims to defend consumer interests
and to embed a robust consumer culture in Ireland. The Government has
given the NCA a very strong mandate to defend and promote consumer rights
through forceful advocacy, targeted research, consumer information, education,
and awareness programmes and the systematic enforcement of consumer law.
The NCA represents the voice of the Irish consumer; enforces consumer
legislation and defends consumer interests at the highest levels of national
and local decision-making.
