ETCI Issues the National Rules for Electrical Installations in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres

Third Edition - ET105:2011

ETCI's Technical Committee 6 (Equipment for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres) has prepared the National Rules for Potentially Explosive Atmospheres, ET105. This publication specifies the requirements for electrical installations in potentially explosive atmospheres. This Edition replaces the Second Edition.

For some time ETCI Technical Committee 6 has been working on a major revision of ET105 to bring it up to date with latest national and international practice and to coordinate the publication with the provisions of the Fourth Edition of the National Rules for Electrical Installations (ET101:2008) and the legal requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations (S.I. 299 of 2007).

In parallel with the development of ET105, TC6 has also undertaken a complete revision of the Subsystem Completion Certificates and Test Records for Electrical Installations in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres.

The implementation date for the new Rules is 3rd January 2012. Please note that the National Rules for Electrical Installations in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres, Second Edition, ET105:2001, will be withdrawn on this date.

ET202 (Guide to the Selection of Electrical Apparatus for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres) and ET209 (A Recommended Maintenance & Inspection Routine for Electrical Installations in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres) will also be withdrawn on 3rd January 2012.

ETCI plan to hold seminars on the new ET105 during Q4/2011 on the lead-up to the implementation date. Details on these seminars will be issued later.

ET 105:2011 is available for sale from ETCI Offices at a cost of €89 plus €7 packaging and postage. Please visit ETCI's online store.
