IEC Young Professionals Workshop

Another first in the history of the IEC involves an entirely new project: the IEC Young Professionals Programme. The first workshop for young engineers and managers is to be held in parallel with the 2010 IEC General Meeting in Seattle, USA, to be held during October 2010.

This workshop is intended for professionals in their 20s to mid-30s with some experience in standards development or in the use of standards in conformity assessment. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the 2010 IEC General Meeting, attend technical meetings and hear and meet some of the experts who are already involved in IEC standardisation work. The programme is destined to strengthen industry participation and encourage professionals to become involved in IEC work from the outset of their careers and is intended to ensure that future generations will continue to benefit from using and contributing to the IEC’s work.

The workshop is aimed at engineers, technicians or managers employed by an IEC relevant association, government body, organisation, industry or business, aged early 20s to mid-30s and who have some experience in standardisation.

ETCI will select two participants representing the electrotechnical industry in Ireland to attend the workshop. This selection process will be completed by Monday, 8th February 2010.

The IEC will cover participants’ accommodation costs for two nights. ETCI will coordinate travel expenses. It is expected that funding for this initiative will be raised through sponsorship assisted, if necessary, by the participants' employers.
