Training Course & Workshop On Risk Assessment for Non-Electrical Equipment In Potentially Explosive Atmospheres

Venue & Date:

To be announced. This course is run biennially by ETCI in Dublin & Cork. Further information on future courses will be advertised on the ETCI website
Cost: €400

Course Objective
The ETCI course on Area Classification was first developed in 2004 as part of the ETCI's ATEX Information Programme which was introduced to equip Irish industry to comply with the EC ATEX Directives and Statutory Instrument 258/2003. Based on feedback from Irish industry and participants on the Area Classification courses, ETCI has developed a one-day course on risk assessment to help determine the safe use of non-electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.

To comply with the ATEX Directives, engineers and operators in potentially hazardous areas must carry out an ignition source risk assessment of mechanical equipment within hazardous areas and provide preventive measures to eliminate or reduce the identified risks.

The objective of the course is to give an overview of mechanical equipment for use in areas classified as potentially explosive and to explain risk assessment principles and how to apply these when an assessment is made of mechanical equipment. At the end of the course you should have a thorough appreciation of the subject and be able to participate in a study under the guidance of an experienced practitioner. Reference will be made to the relevant legislation and to the European codes which provide guidance for the selection of mechanical equipment for use in areas where potentially explosive gases, vapours, mists and combustible dusts may be present.

Who Should Attend?
The course has been prepared to appeal to those involved in the design, operation or maintenance of plants where flammable materials are used in the process and in particular, Process Control and Electrical, Mechanical Engineers and Designers. The course will also be beneficial to Health & Safety professionals and those who are involved in compiling the Explosion Protection Document (EPD).

Course Material
Each participant will be provided with:
ETCI Non-Electrical Course notes including print-out of PowerPoint slides, case studies on mechanical risk assessment and their solutions,
The ETCI Guide to the Selection of Electrical Apparatus for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres.
